Ugh. Too hot. Can't go out picture taking
today. Earn a point by telling me your
favorite famous Portland person (ie. Tonya
Harding, Gus Van Sant, John Callahan,
Will Vinton, Chuck Palahniuk, etc) and
why that person is your favorite.

Matt Groening by far. "The Simpsons" Although these days I mainly watch to see what Bart is writing on the chalk board during the opening credits.
Favorite memory is of Mayor Bud Clark and his Woop, Woop. Had a choir trip to DC back in 84, he was at the main Capital building when we were, found we were from Portland and Wooped us. Course we had to say it back (all 100 of us) Large spectical we made - lol
i'm going to be snarky and pick a whole entire band of celebrities: the shins. cuz i love them. i didn't know matt groening lived here, how cool! i second pick him! stay cool lil domo man!
My favorite Portland person is Beverly Cleary the author of the Beezus and Ramona books. I loved those books growing up and I'm still trying to get my daughter hooked on them too.
I love Matt Groening (particularly since he has publicly stated that he thinks Beaverton is the funniest city name ever), but I'm going to have to vote for Pink Martini. They are so cool and continental -- I'm sure they make Europeans think that Portland is an exceptionally sophisticated and groovy place (which it is).
I would like to note that I have been unable to guess ANY of domo's locations (with the exception of Finnegans) so I have accepted the fact that I will likely never win a domo (unless you start taking pictures of them at my house), but I still like posting random things every now and then.
Jean M. Auel, author of The Clan of the Cave Bear series. In 9th grade English, our big year-long project was to each pick our favorite author, find an address to reach them at, and write them a letter with a bunch of questions about their life stories to help us get to know them better. Then we would dress up as them and be interviewed, pretending to be them, while being videotaped, with the rest of the class and the teacher asking us questions about "ourselves" to see how well we had studied their life stories and really knew about them at the end of the year.
Well, I wrote to Jean and she hand-wrote back a scathing response, answering none of my questions and stating that she was sure I must have misunderstood the assignment because surely no teacher would have the gall to instruct students to waste the time of busy authors. It went on and on and was pretty mean.
I showed it to my teacher and he read it silently with huge eyes.
Then all of a sudden, in front of the whole ninth grade class he burst out, "What a bitch!!!"
Rachel, Matt Groening... of course! I always forget he's from here.
Melissa, I love The Shins too!
Petals, I loved the Beverly Clearly books as well. I grew up in the mid-west and thought it was cool when I moved to Portland (while in my 20s) and found out she grew up here. My daughter is an avid reader and she went through all of her books a while back.
Kak, I've heard lots about Pink Martini, but I've never heard them. I'll have to check them out. As for winning a Domo, I don't think you'll get Brave Domo, but there are 5 more Domos! And even if you don't ever guess correctly, it's great to have you participate, so thank you!
Jessica, wow, that woman is a bitch! Funny story!
Claire (Domo's foster mom)
